Having been named one of the leading acts in Filipino music, SB19 has been credited by the media with popularizing and paving the way for P-pop music and has been further cited as the "Kings of P-pop". Teen Vogue named SB19 one of the best boy bands of all time. A local subsidiary of the South Korean entertainment company ShowBT, based in Makati, aimed to draw a new market in the Philippines similar to K-pop. They formed SB19 by selecting members from a talent search in 2016 for training.
