About Brand New (band)

Brand New is an American rock band formed in 2000 from Long Island, New York. Consisting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Jesse Lacey, lead guitarist Vincent Accardi, bassist Garrett Tierney and drummer Brian Lane, the band earned critical recognition as one of the most influential emo bands, and was acclaimed for their musical development and artistic innovation compared to other groups in the scene from which they originated. In the 1990s, Lacey, Tierney and Lane played in the Levittown band the Rookie Lot, and Brand New was formed with Accardi after Lacey left his position as the founding bassist for Taking Back Sunday. The band signed to Triple Crown Records and released a pop-punk debut album Your Favorite Weapon. The band began to incorporate indie rock influences on their second album Deja Entendu, released in 2003 to positive reviews over the band's stylistic changes. Its two singles "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" both entered the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart. Deja Entendu was eventually certified Gold in the US. The demos for the band's major label debut on Interscope Records were leaked onto the internet in 2006.

Brand New (band) — Rare Footage & Clips

In a cramped, smoke-filled room in Long Island, New York, four young men gathered around a makeshift drum kit, their fingers flying across instruments as they poured their hearts and souls into the music that would become Brand New's debut album, Your Favorite Weapon. The year was 2001, and the emo scene was still in its nascent stages, but these Long Islanders were about to make waves with their raw energy and unbridled passion.

Jesse Lacey's distinctive vocals cut through the din of the room like a hot knife through butter, his words spilling out like confessional secrets as he sang about love, loss, and disillusionment. Vincent Accardi's guitar work was a perfect complement to Lacey's emotive delivery, weaving in and out of the rhythms with an effortless ease that belied the complexity of their sound. Garrett Tierney's bass lines provided a pulsing heartbeat, while Brian Lane's drums pounded out a relentless beat that seemed to propel the music forward like a runaway train.

It's no wonder that Brand New's early work resonated so deeply with fans who felt like they'd been punched in the gut by life itself. Their songs were like open wounds, laid bare for all to see and feel. And yet, despite their raw intensity, there was something undeniably beautiful about it – a sense of catharsis that came from witnessing these young men exorcise their demons through music.

As they signed with Triple Crown Records and released Your Favorite Weapon in 2001, Brand New quickly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting new bands on the scene. But it was their second album, Deja Entendu, released in 2003, that truly cemented their status as innovators within the emo genre. This was no longer just raw energy and emotion; this was artistry, experimentation, and a willingness to push boundaries.

The singles "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" both cracked the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart, a testament to Brand New's growing international appeal. And back in the States, Deja Entendu was certified Gold, a nod to their commercial success as well as critical acclaim.

But what sets Brand New apart from their contemporaries is not just their music – it's their willingness to evolve and take risks. They never stayed stuck in one place for too long, always pushing forward into new sonic territories. And that's why they're still relevant today, even if they've been relatively quiet since the mid-2000s.

The demos for their major label debut on Interscope Records were leaked onto the internet in 2006, a curious footnote in the band's history. But it's a reminder that Brand New has always been a band that defies easy categorization – a group of outsiders who refused to be bound by genre or convention.

In the years since their rise to fame, emo and its various offshoots have become ubiquitous, but Brand New's influence can still be felt in the music of today. They may not have achieved mainstream superstardom, but they've left an indelible mark on the musical landscape – a testament to the power of raw emotion, artistic innovation, and a willingness to take risks.

And so, as we look back on Brand New's remarkable journey, it's clear that their significance extends far beyond their own music. They're a reminder that true artistry is about pushing boundaries, taking risks, and refusing to be bound by convention. And in an era where musical homogeny threatens to suffocate creativity, Brand New's legacy serves as a beacon of hope – a testament to the enduring power of music to capture our hearts and souls.

Their story may not have been one of commercial success or mainstream recognition, but it's a testament to the enduring power of art to transcend its own time. And for those who experienced their music firsthand, the memories remain vivid – a snapshot in time that continues to resonate long after the last note has faded away.
